What’s the big deal about blogs?

I have recently seen some interesting blogs created by teachers and students, and want to set one up myself to see how it might be useful.
Step 1: Complete – I have created a blog.
Step 2: This requires learning how to set it up to be what I want. I will be getting on that right away, or as soon as possible, or when I get the chance.

I don’t even know what the big deal is about blogs! I know that people write their thoughts on a internet page for other peopl to see it. But i don’t really understand what the big deal is. I guess if someone to write a blog that critisized something and someone else read it, they might be mad. I used to usea blog on my msn webpage. I very rearly use it now. I just sort of forgot about it and never really continued. I would always think “who am i doing this for?, are people really going to read this and care what i wrote?”
