~Yearbook Project
UPDATE (as of March 19, 2007)
Yearbook pages 1-16 are almost ready, except the SRC page needs job titles for everyone, and Gr11 needs a few more pics to go with the mug shots. And then final proofreading for errors, etc.
Pages 17-32 could be done soon (this week), but there’s still a fair amount of fine tuning, followed by proofing. One page is blank still. For photos, a Jr Girls’ volleyball team photo is needed, among others. Make sure the writing you choose is a good colour, size and font to be readable. If you are behind, please come in at noon!
If you are done your other work, please pitch in and help finish these pages. I would also like everyone to choose another layout that they would like to do. If you are done your first one, begin experimenting with ideas for a layout. This time, if you haven’t before already, make sure to check off the GRIDLINES option, and use this to keep writing away from the edges of the pages, and to line up photos, etc.

Managing a yearbook project. That sounds like something we can handle here. In CPT20, the focus was on layout and design. In IP30, organization in going to play a larger role. Here is the mission. Create two 2-page layouts, one to be finished by March 15. So far, the unifying theme to the book is, there is no unifying theme, other than flagrant use of coulour, especially in backgrounds. I suggest that we continue with that, but be purposeful in this decision. This link has been added to the list of links on the main page of out class blog. Please choose your first page layout (provided by Mr. Stinson on a first come, first serve basis), and begin. Make sure you inderstand the instructions below, and have worked through them. See instructor or experienced classmates for further assistance.
Using the Online Page Layout Program (Introduction)
1-Click on the Friesens link on the Yearbook Page of the class blog.
http://www.friesens.com/Yearbook/ct/Saskatchewan.aspx?bhcp=1
Enter school ID: 308675 and your username and password.
2-Select “Current Projects”, then “Designer’s Edge Online” from the choices on the left of the screen.
The three tasks from here at are available for you are Page Management, Upload Images and Organize Images.
First, go to “Page Management”.
You need to first make sure that there is an image folder associated with your page layout. See Mr. Stinson for details.
Click on the link for the page layout you will be working on.
For some reason, this takes A LONG TIME to load. It will say “done” but it is not done until a page appears on the screen. Like up to 15 minutes. So go find something else to do for a few minutes. Either work on project planning on looseleaf, or log onto another computer to do other work and check back later. Then check and maybe wait a bit longer.
TO SPEED THINGS UP: Once the page loads, right click on the centre of the screen and select “settings” from the options. Then click on the icon of a yellow folder with a green arrow, and move the scroll bar that appears, as far to the far right, so that it is set for “unlimited local storage”, and click on “close”. This won’t speed things up this time, but hopefully next time it will load faster.
When the page layout appears:
Your tools are on the left hand side of the screen. The work area is marked by a ruler at the top and a ruler along the left.
Check the box marked “Gridlines” near the top of the page.
TOOLS
To the left of the word “Gridlines” are small buttons. Beginning from the left, they are:
-
Draw a circle
-
Draw a square
-
Draw a line
-
Make a text box
-
Insert an image
1-Try the circle button. A black circle should appear. Try moving it and resizing it.
Notice that it has a name highlighted in green , and in another box lower down. Give it a new name, like “Green Circle”. Then change the circle colour to green by clicking on the colour square beside the word Colour. A new window appears. Drag the handles around to change the colour, then click apply (Hint: C=cyan, a light blue colour, M=magenta, Y=Yellow, K=____. Remember what colours mixed together make green?
2-Make one of each of the other objects, and move them around.
3-The other important buttons are below the box with the names of objects highlighted in green.
Tools from left to right are:
-
Clicking on the garbage can symbol deletes the selected object.
-
The next icon locks or unlocks moving the object
-
The third one locks or unlocks content (such as the text in a text box)
-
The eye icon makes items disappear or reappear, to see items underneath
-
The down arrow puts objects below other objects.
-
The up arrow moves objects up.
Try these.
FINALLY: Begin to create your layout (without the pictures at this point). Save your progress as you work by clicking on the “Save” button near the bottom left of the work area.
